More about ASPCO
ASPCO
is Austin’s only cooperative studio for screen printing. The studio provides a space and equipment for
artists to create original works ranging from band posters to wrapping paper to
fine art prints, t-shirts and textiles.
ASPCO is an affordable solution for screen printing artists and gives
them a place to collaborate and learn from others.
ASPCO
began with an idea in the summer of 2009.
Founder James Tootle is a graphic designer who wanted a place where he
could design and print original t-shirts as a hobby. James posted an ad on Craigslist to see if
anyone in Austin was interested in sharing the cost of some basic screen
printing equipment. The response was
terrific and the idea quickly grew into the formation of an official non-profit cooperative
registered with the State of Texas.
After almost a year of planning, and with invaluable assistance from
Texas C-Bar and the Pump Project, ASPCO opened its doors in July 2010 with 12
members.
In
its first year ASPCO has grown from 12 to 33 members. ASPCO has hosted one workshop to teach the
screen printing process and participated in the East Austin Studio Tour. More public workshops and member exhibits are
planned for the coming year. ASPCO was
also featured in an article
on Austinist.com (Nov 2010). |
